Momma’s Sangria Treat
Refreshing, well-deserved summer treat for mommy!
Every mom deserves something special to cool off during these summer months of racing around chasing kids, picking up backyard toys, lathering sunscreen, being the mosquito control sergeant, and keeping up to everyone with the daily grind.
So this post is for all those moms (and dads) needing a refreshing beverage! Not for the children
Spanish-inspired SANGRIA.
These recipes are featured in the Food Everyday Martha Stewart Magazine July/August 2011, “INSTANT PARTY” …
I call this ‘MOMMA’S TREAT‘! - may I add, well deserved summer treat!
Classic Sangria- In a pitcher or large bowl, combine:
- 1 orange (1/4 inch slices)
- 1 lime (thinly sliced crosswise)
- Granny Smith apple (cored and cut in to 1-inch pieces)
- 1 cup green grapes (halved)
- 1/4 cup brandy
- 1 bottle dry red wine (Rioja or Cabernet Sauvignon)
- Stir and refrigerate 1 hour (up to overnight)
- To serve,
- mix with 4 cups Lemon-lime soda and ice.
- or
- pour 1/2 glass sangria, top other 1/2 of glass with soda water/lemon-lime soda or gingerale.
Raspberry-Mango Sangria- In pitcher or large bowl, combine:
- 1 mango, peeled, pitted, sliced lengthwise
- 1 cup raspberries
- 3 tablespoons raspberry liqueur
- 1 bottle rosé wine
- Stir and refrigerate 1 hour (up to overnight)
- To serve, add 4 cups Lemon-lime soda and ice
- or
- pour 1/2 glass sangria, top other 1/2 of glass with soda water/lemon-lime soda or gingerale.
Melon-Mint Sangria- In pitcher or large bowl, combine:
- 1/2 honeydew melon (use large melon baller, scoop balls of melon)
- 1 pound seedless watermelon, peeled and cut into 1-inch pieces
- 1 pound cantaloupe, peeled, seeded and thinly sliced
- 1 cup fresh mint leaves
- 1 bottle dry white wine (Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris)
- Stir and refrigerate 1 hour (up to overnight)
- To serve, add 1 litre of ginger ale and ice
- or
- pour 1/2 glass sangria, top other 1/2 of glass with gingerale
Strawberry-Rhubarb Sangria- In small saucepan, combine
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup water
- bring to boil and add:
- 2 rhubarb stalks, cut into 1/2 inch pieces
- cook for 1 minute.
- Transfer mixture to medium heatproof bowl and let cool to room temp (30 mins)
- Meanwhile, in pitcher or large bowl, combine:
- 1/2 cup fresh orange juice (squeezed juice of one orange)
- 1 orange, halved and cut into 1/4 inch slices
- 1 pint strawberries, hulled and quartered
- To serve,
- add cooled rhubarb mixture
- 4 cups chilled club soda
- 1 bottle chilled sparkline wine (Prosecco or any sparkling white wine)
